At CTK, we believe in empowering our students to take responsibility for their own learning and personal growth. One of the key skills we focus on is self-management, helping children develop the ability to stay focused in class, stay organised, and manage their time effectively. By encouraging them to make decisions, reflect on their actions, and take ownership of their responsibilities, we aim to build confidence and resilience in our young learners. Through this process, students not only thrive academically but also grow into well-rounded individuals who are ready to face the challenges of tomorrow.
Can we please ask that in the mornings you please drop your child off on the netball courts in order for them to then manage their morning classroom routines. This is a huge help to all the teachers while they set up for the day.
Weekly Engagement Reports: Tracking Student Attendance, Behaviour and Academics.
Each week, we send out engagement reports to monitor and celebrate the progress of our students.
This report tracks a student's Attendance, Behaviour and Academics. Please see below for more details:
Attendance
Lateness
Managing Self - On task, completing tasks and being organised.
Relating to Others - Actively listening, encouraging and compassionate.
Basic Facts - For Rooms 2, 7 & 8.
Spelling - For Rooms 2, 7 & 8.
By sharing these reports, we aim to identify students who may need extra support, celebrate those who are excelling, and ensure that every child is staying on track with their learning goals.
The report also serves as a tool for parents to stay informed and involved in their child’s academic journey. Through consistent monitoring and communication, we can work together to foster an environment where every student is engaged and motivated to succeed.
Today you will receive your first Weekly Engagement report.
Attendance at School
Regular school attendance is crucial for student success. Each day in the classroom provides valuable opportunities to learn, engage with peers, and build on previous lessons.
Missing school can create gaps in understanding and make it harder to keep up with lessons. We encourage families to prioritise consistent attendance, as it plays a key role in academic achievement, social development, and overall growth.
Together, we can help ensure that every student has the best chance to thrive! Below are the percentages achieved by our classes and school. Well done everyone!!!!

“An Attitude of Gratitude" One of St Mary Mackillop’s quotes
At one time or other, people around the globe take a moment to express gratitude and appreciation for the blessings, kindness and support they have received. For Catholics, gratitude is not just a fleeting emotion, but a profound spiritual practice rooted in our faith and relationship with God. It is a virtue that enriches our lives, deepens our faith and strengthens our connections with others.
Gratitude is a fundamental theme throughout the Bible and Catholic tradition. The Scriptures exhort believers to give thanks in all circumstances, recognising that every good gift comes from God. Psalm 136:1 declares, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” This verse encapsulates the essence of gratitude as a response to God’s enduring love and generosity towards His creation. Jesus Himself modelled a life of gratitude and thanksgiving. In Gospels, He frequently expressed gratitude to God the Father, such as when He gave thanks before multiplying the loaves and fishes (John 6:11) or when He thanked the Father for hearing His prayer (John 11:41). Through His example, Jesus teaches us that gratitude is an essential aspect of our relationship with God and one another.
Gratitude is more than polite manners or a social nicety; it is a spiritual discipline that opens our hearts to God’s grace and transforms our perspectives on life. When we cultivate a spirit of gratitude, we recognise the abundance of blessings in our lives, both big and small. This awareness fosters contentment, peace and resilience, even amid challenges and trials.

Tēnā koutou katoa,
This year our senior classes will focus on learning based on ‘The Reverence of all creation’ which is connected to our ‘Peace and Joy - An attitude of gratitude’ value.
Our junior school focus across this year is ‘Service to community’ which links well with our ‘Service’ value. Next Friday on the 21st February our school will be working together with a clean up of our local adopted Valonia park. This will involve a general rubbish clean up of the park area.
The junior classes will also be inquiring into various community groups or organisations who serve and care for our local community everyday.
Our junior teachers are also working hard with all our younger learners through the teaching and learning approaches of ‘Little Learners Love Literacy’ as our structured literacy programme.
Whole school
‘Math No Problem’ structured maths approach. All our teachers are working hard learning alongside our students to implement the new structured math programme. Our students are enjoying working through their workbooks building new knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts.
Auckland United
This week all our students had an opportunity to learn football skills and activities to control, kick, pass, and various other skills learned through games. Ultimately, our students had a whole lot of fun during each session which was facilitated by players from Auckland United Football club in Mt Roskill.
We look forward to what the rest of term 1 will bring with some key dates, events and learning opportunities over the coming weeks.
